Getting Here and Getting Around
Bikes are available for use and no public transportation reaches Hidden Villa. We are within 1.5 miles of the closest bus stop and about 5 miles from the closest Caltrain stop.
Hidden Villa’s mission is to inspire a just and sustainable future through our programs, land and legacy. We are an educational non-profit located on 1600 acres situated on the north east side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the farm taking up approximately 40 of those acres. The rest of the property is hilly and wooded and has its own trails that connect you to the trail system of the Santa Cruz Mountains. A mix of riparian woodland and chaparral ecosystems dominate the area, meaning hot and dry in the summer, and relatively cold and wet in the spring (watch the life cycle of the California Buckeye, its awesome).
Our location is out of the fog belt well known for nourishing all of the Redwoods on the other side of the mountains but is tucked into hills so especially in the winter time it can take a while for the sun to break. Deer are as common as squirrels and you’ll likely encounter coyotes and bobcats at least once. Though sightings are rare, we also host Mountain Lions. Hidden Villa is also on the radar for many birders- if you enjoy birding you will be thrilled during spring and fall migrations. The farm itself has a number of production fields, an educational garden, and two barns. Its animal life consists of pigs, chickens, cows, goats, and sheep.
The farm is open to the public Tuesday-Sunday, so there are usually people on the property, especially during weekends. However, San Francisco and San Jose are both close and available by public transportation. There is also a wealth of parks, restaurants, movie theatres, etc within closer communities. Exploring the area is a great way to feel more at home at HV.
